Qualified Signal Man (Initial)

COURSE OVERVIEW: – The candidates for HEtech’s Qualified Signalman Program are individuals who wish to be qualified signalman who have been trained by “field practices”, but not yet exposed to the formal side of Crane Signaling subjects.  This program is designed to increase the Qualified Signalman knowledge, skill and proficiency level through classroom and hands-on training. Students can achieve Qualified Signalman status by successfully completing written and hands-on segments.

OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the course, the participant will be able to:

1. Identify the causes and effects of accidents involving Qualified Signalman.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT(S):  Requirements for Certification

1. Be at 18 years and above
2. Pass competency test e.g. written and practical examination

TOPICS:

Certified Banks man, Fundamental of Rigging and Lifting. Simple lift, specifically certified Banks man should be able to demonstrate or have knowledge of how to:

1. Types of Signaling.
2. Hand signal as per International Standards (ASME).
3. Recognize hazards.
4. Duties & responsibilities of Signalman.
5. Duties & responsibilities of Spotter & Flagger.
6. How to signal the Routine, Critical, Blind, Tandem lift Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994.
7. Basic Rigging method.

LIST OF TEACHING AIDS:

1. LCD Projector.
2. Computer.
3. White Board with accessories.
4. Flip Chart with accessories.

EXAMINATION:

Written Examination – Written examination consists of 50 multiple questions. Candidates are allowed 60 minutes to complete the test.

Practical Examination – The successful completion of Certified Banks man practical Examination demonstrates a candidate’s as per ASME hand signal competency.

CERTIFICATION OF TIME FRAMES:

Candidates must pass both written & practical Examinations to be certified for a One –year period. Any tests passed within a 3-months period towards certification.

RECERTIFICATION : HEtech certification is valid for one year. Candidates must complete all of their recertification requirements during the one month prior to their certifications. There is no grace period after certification has expired. Candidates whose certification has lapsed must take the full written & Practical examination to be certified again. The Certified Banks man recertification written examination consists of 30 multiple- chose questions with a time limit of 30 minutes. There is no requirement for Practical Examination for recertification.
